4 Spices With Surprising Health Benefits

Turmeric has been shown to help fight inflammation. Some research even suggests that it can make chemotherapy more effective. Frances likes to add it to her cold brew coffee in the morning.

Sumac is mostly seen in Middle Eastern spice blends, but on its own has a lemony flavor. It is high in antioxidants and can be beneficial in lowering both cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Frances uses it to flavor meats, but also sprinkles it on top of avocado toast.

Cayenne Pepper is a digestive aid and can provide pain relief. While it is commonly used in spicy dishes, Frances suggest stirring a bit into your apple cider to add to the health benefits. 

Cinnamon is usually used to flavor sweet dishes, but Frances likes to add it to Chili and other savory dishes to add dimension. It is beneficial for lowering cholesterol and blood sugar, and may play a role in preventing Alzheimer's.
