Small Changes For Healthier Food

Ellie Krieger gives out great advice on Twitter! We’ve collected her tips on small changes you can make for healthier meals.

We all get cravings for something crispy once in a while! To healthfully satisfy those cravings, Ellie suggests coating chicken or fish with whole grain breading, spraying with oil, and then baking.

Bread and butter are great, but save them for a special occasion. Ellie encourages you to spread peanut butter, almond butter, jam, honey, or mashed avocado on your bread instead. We love this tip because there are so many choices and combinations to try.

Apples are in season right now, and Ellie wants you to see them as more than just a snack. Use them in crisps, muffins, purees, quesadillas (red apples with peanut or almond butter, and green with cheddar cheese), oatmeal, and pancakes. The apples will add their natural sweetness so you won’t need too much (or any) extra sugar.

When it’s burger night, Ellie advocates using ground beef that’s 90% lean or higher. Add your favorite vegetable toppings and serve on a whole-wheat bun, or an English muffin.

Make your own breadcrumbs for baked chicken fingers. Ellie uses a combination of corn flakes, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. They’ll be healthy and flavorful!
