Best friends and design gurus Taniya Nayak and Sabrina Soto got on Facebook live recently to answer fan questions, talk about their lives, and give design advice. If you missed it, check out the video here:
Taniya Nayak talked to the Boston Globe about restaurant design trends, easy ways to upgrade your kitchen, and her role as the emcee of the upcoming Share Our Strength Taste of The Nation event. We've included an excerpt, but check out the full article on The Boston Globe.
Just like restaurateurs, homeowners are usually working within a budget when designing their kitchens. Nayak’s advice is to choose your battles and spend money strategically. “One area where you can really change the look of a kitchen is just adding a backsplash. You can potentially splurge because it is really minimal square footage,” says the designer. That will make the whole space feel more high-end.
She also recommends personalizing with accessories, like bold barstools on the kitchen island that can act as a focal point, no renovation required. “You can keep it nice and simple and add little pops of color.”
This month, Taniya Nayak is the cover girl for Boston Common Magazine. We can't get enough of the photographs or the story! Taniya is obviously a natural in front of the camera now, but it was great to read about her varied career path.
We loved this bit: Guests enter her studio through a nondescript industrial door. Inside: design heaven. The expansive single-room space has a flow that works on all levels: charm, mood, utility, originality. Exposed timber beams stripe the ceiling above the computer workstations by the windows. Giant wrought-iron light fixtures hang like cages glowing with steampunk-style bulbs. Bookshelves filled with design volumes and textile samples are a buffer zone, segueing to a cozy sitting area and test kitchen. Yet amid all the eye-candy and ambience, the focal point in the loft is as basic as child’s play: a giant chalkboard filled with quotes that are totally Taniya, and serve as mantras in her everyday life.
